Interview with Tejay Bah

What is your film ‘Upward Mobility’ about?

‘Upward Mobility’ is about a husband irrational decisions that almost causes him to lose the love of his life.

What inspired you to write this story?

Relationship between men and women has always been something that I’m fascinated by. How two people can come together and make a life through the ups and downs. I found that very interesting, so I tried to explore what that is like on Upward Mobility.

You wear multiple on this project (actor, producer, etc.). How/why did that end up happening?

As an actor in LA there comes a time when you realized you can no longer just wait for someone to give you a job. You have to create your own opportunities. That’s why I decided to collaborate with my friend and producing partner Momo Dione to establish a company and start creating our own projects.

How can we see the film?

For now we are just submitting to few festivals that we like. We just screened at the Culver City Film Festival at the Howard Hughes Center in LA. You can get updates on our company website www.mansanzinga.com and also on IG @upwardmobilityfilm.

What kind of stories do you want to tell as an actor?

I’m passionate about African cinema and the untold stories of Africans from the diaspora.

What other projects are you working on?

We are currently finishing our documentary that we shot last year in West Africa, Guinea, Conakry. Few episodes are on our YouTube channel Mansa Nzinga Productions title ‘Momo Dione: Going Home.’ I just finished a feature script which we are about to do a table read soon.

How long have you been a 3As member and how has the organization benefited you?

I think since the beginning. So about 11 years. It has been a great experience, met incredible people and talent. And the organization has always and continue to support me in all of my endeavors.
