Director Bio

Peres Owino is a Kenyan born writer/director with a background steeped in theater. She has played some of theater’s most coveted roles: Hamlet, Lady Macbeth and worked with Academy Award ® winning director Tim Robbins and Tony Award ® winning director Dominique Serrand. In 2009, she staged her semi-autobiographical play, “Beauty For Ashes,” making her playwriting debut. Her stage directorial debut followed with her play, “Cut” at The Walt Disney Concert Hall – REDCAT. Her screen footprint begun in 2003 when her first screenplay, “The Call,” co-written with writing partner Sharon Brathwaite, won several festival awards. Their screenplay, “Seasons of Love,” produced by Academy Award Nominee Taraji P. Henson, is scheduled to premiere on the Lifetime Network this fall. The award–winning documentary Bound: Africans vs African Americans is her screen directorial debut and the first film title under her production company, Nyar Nam Productions.
